Tanjung Aru Beach

Tanjung Aru Beach is a public beach in Kota Kinabalu. When I was there to pass the time before going to the airport, I saw families and a group of young people having picnic, children playing, kite and ice cream ambulant vendors, and people waiting for the sunset. Some ladies, presumably tourists, dramatically posed for photos with the sunset as background.

Seine Fishing at Sunrise

image

At sunrise, I watched this couple from afar doing seine fishing by the shore, section per section of this long stretch of beach in Gubat, Sorsogon. At one point, I went near them as they fold their net and saw only a handful of about 4 inches long fish in their catch so far.

By the River Tamsui

To pause for a while and watch the sunset

One fine afternoon, in place of long walks, it was the perfect time to ride leisurely by the river Tamsui and watch the sunset in my rented bicycle. Then I’ve come to understand that I take delight inTaiwan more than in Hong Kong or Macau.

Solar Image Fascination

image

Sunrise and the boat

Man has been observing the phases of day through the sun since Paleolithic Era until now, the “Android Age”. So there I was very recently in a tiny island, very mindful of the colors of the day attributed to the sun. Well, it’s our human nature that makes us store in some a place the solar image we’ve seen though not in cave paintings this time.

Stimulus

image

Sunset

That vision of soft sunset by the sea is somewhat connected to my being. Particularly to my gut as I anticipate the forthcoming evening meal. Like a stimulus to my digestive system. By twilight, my anticipation grows stronger as I see myself about to eat. And so, sunset can be a joy for nonsentimental, nonpoetic, and non-cheesy reasons.

River Waltz

image

Approaching the jetty of our host as we end our river cruise

It was around 10:00 in the evening when we cruised the Pengkalan Datu River. There were no artificial lights seen along the way except from distant houses, from the torch of lone fisherman seen occasionally by the riverbank working on his net or trap, and from the headlights of the boat navigator. The water was so eerily still and quiet except for the sound of some huge fish jumping now and then.

image

We cruised that night on a boat just like this one

We were actually cruising deep in the night to see the fireflies. Those insects must be huge for I can see them flicker from distant trees and bushes as we ride along the river. Too bad the moon was very bright that the simultaneous flickering was not that spectacular. On the other hand, the full moon was perfect. It made the night so beautiful while we waltz along the river.

By the Iloilo River, I Ran

image

When I was a kid, my favorite view in Iloilo would be the passage of the ship in this river coming from the strait of Iloilo. I would either be at the roof deck or at the railing of M/V Princess of Negros or M/V Don Vicente. How I wish I have photographs of these two beloved Negros Navigation vessels. Each way will take 2 hours but it was truly a joy to slow travel in those ships than in fast craft vessels which took over the Bacolod-Iloilo route in the 90s.

Esplanade is a little more than a kilometer long

Whenever I run in Iloilo, one can always see the river, or one can certainly pass at some bridge spanning the river. This filled my mind with historical thoughts like my story above.

I appreciate this beautification effort in Iloilo

See that Gothic structure over there at the other side of the river? that's Molo church. I ran towards Molo district first before running in this esplanade by the river

Splendor at Sundown

I happened to hang around these structures at sunset and naturally I had to capture this momentary splendor using my phone and my mind.
