Casio (Shellfish)

The girl eats the foot of this shellfish as soon as her grandmother pulls it from the sand in the shallow waters of Tondol beach in Anda Island.
The granny calls this edible mollusk as “casio”. So it’s casio for their dinner (sans the tails) by cooking it in the pot in low fire to make a soup of it from its own water.

Bamboo Cake

Also known as binungey.
Inside this bamboo packaging with banana leaf cover is a sticky rice cake that tastes like puto maya.

Some of the many photographs I have of the Philippine outrigger canoe also known as banca.

Sometimes it is easier to go to another part of town via sea than land

Rice Cake Cupcake

Also known as bibingka.
There are quite a number of variations of bibingka all over the country and this is just one of those.

Paper Bus Tickets

These are paper bus tickets used by city buses in Metro Manila and are issued manually by bus conductors by handing out the tickets to each passenger inside the bus in their seat or standing position. Imagine a bus conductor negotiating his way inside a full-packed standing bus just to hand the tickets.

Salted Dried Fish

I would prefer salted dried fish over salty processed canned goods to go with rice for breakfast.

Batwan

This fruit from a tree is used as souring ingredient by crushing it like how you crush a garlic then add it in fish paksiw, tinolang isda, kansi etc
Batwan is common in Panay and Negros and I recently found out that this is also common in Masbate.

Pawa Mangrove Ecosystem

Pawa is the name of the Barangay in Masbate City where this mangrove park is located. DENR takes care of the planting and preservation of these mangroves.
