Japanized Spaghetti

image

Spaghetti topped with fried egg, a first for me

One afternoon while strolling in Akiba in chilly weather (about 8°C) and trying to find a particular gachapon place, I came upon an underground spaghetti bar where I intentionally chose to take refuge from the cold.

The reason was because its spaghetti picture menu (placed at the roadside) looked appetizing in a Japanese way, and indeed it was for there was no leftover in my large order.

Kafunsho

image

Spring season in Japan unfortunately means hay fever (kafunsho) season for some. So those who are allergic to pollens take precautionary measures like putting on masks as part of their outfit of the day – everyday.

image

On my first day here five days ago I thought I had sore eyes, then I realized I was affected by pollens too but in my case I only have eye symptoms (allergic conjunctivitis).

image

Until today my eyes would be itchy and watery sometimes though it’s mild that I don’t need to wear some kind of special eye goggles for hay fever or take antihistamines. But my eye symptoms are there everyday.

image

Japan spring is very beautiful that you’d want to be in the parks and gardens most of the time but then kafunsho also comes with territory.

Pinakbet Packets

Pinakbet packet members: bitter gourd, string beans, squash, okra, eggplant

Vegetables needed for a pinakbet dish are sliced and packed for the convenience of the cook and also for the seller to dispose of those imperfect whole ones (e.g. whole eggplant) by slicing the good sections from it of which these will then be sold as members of the pinakbet packet.
