Puto (Rice Cake)

Usually this type of rice cake does not have packaging, but in Iloilo it is wrapped in banana leaves. I have seen locals pair this with batchoy.

Sea Flavor

Raw sea urchin roe tastes buttery and salty. Only a glass of gonads can be extracted from a bucket of sea urchin but it is enough to satisfy me with fresh and pure flavor of the sea.

Guinamos

Guinamos is an Ilonggo salty shrimp paste sold by blocks. A sautéed guinamos in tomatoes and pork fat is my favorite rice condiment.

Fog Lamps as Props

I have noticed that in south Cebu it is common to see jeepneys and tricycles having fog lamps as props. The more fog lamps the more macho it is.

Altar Flowers

Both sampaguita and everlasting flowers are commonly seen outside the cathedral being peddled by ambulant vendors. People buy these flowers to adorn their home altars or Santo (lei).

Everything is sampaguita flowers or sometimes at the bottom of the lei they would put camia or ylang-ylang.

Sagmani and Binakol

Native delicacies like the sagmani and binakol in the picture below, and all other types of kakanin and suman, are not only delicious and filling, but they are earth-friendly too with their plant-based packaging.
